Horses for courses - it all depends need
- Joomla is great for a more complex site and if you want to have both guests and let users log in for more content. There are loads for free templates and customisation elements. However if you only want to have a simple site with a few pages I have also started to use Wordpress. It is even easier to use but you have to explicitly create each page.

A very good CMS
- I've used joomla for one year now, and have managed to build up a fairly complex members content site. At first, I found it difficult to understand (modules, plug-ins, the concept of articles) and how it all worked together. But over time and as I continued to preserver, it began to make more sense and I could see the immediate benefits of using this CMS. I then managed to get hold of a module that allowed me to code PHP within the articles (pages) themselves with the CMS stripping out the code by default and then my whole site came alive!! I have the benefit of using an effective CMS with all the inbuilt added functionality and able to code the pages exactly the way I want using PHP. Perfect!!

joomla
- I like joomla and have used it for about 2 years now. There is a lot you can do to it and even make your own mods and com's for it. I host http://mygaragestuff.net and i have no worries. It just depends what you are going to do with it ...

Try the alternatives
- After struggling with Joomla, I tried CMS Made Simple and find it to be a lot more straight forward to use. Importantly, my customers also find it easier to use to update their sites.

Great!
- Joomla! is absolutely great but you have to know how to use it. It's very easy to create Joomla templates, and you can create almost any type of website since there are thousands of free plugins developed by the enormous Joomla! community. E-commerce website, personal portal, blog, new website... you name it... They can all be developed using Joomla! as content manager. I would definitely recommend to Joomla! to everybody that would like to have a professional looking website but lack the server-side language knowledge.

Create your own CMS
- Joomla for some of us makes life difficult. Too difficult to work with. For me, the best is creating your own CMS to suit the website you're developing. Takes time to do so, but works fine.

Joomla = Foolya
- At first glance, it seems as though Joomla would be great, right? However, the complexity of plugins, components, modules, etc... let alone the fact that nearly everything is in XML drives me nuts. I just moved back to pure PHP, HTML, MySQL, and CSS. The best site is the one you build entirely by yourself.

try wordpress/bbpress
- I use it long time ago.... Later i shifted to wordpress... then recently to wordpress's bbpress... And like it bbpress the most followed by wordpress.... joomla is just a little messy and heavy(size) compared to bbpress, its very light and its interfaces are pretty unique... MOST WORST PART OF JOOMLA.... i think it do many sql connection to load a single page... nothing else about joomla... joomla is good if you have a super fast server/host joomla is good if you focus on theme and not on the content...
