Guide Review - PHP 5 In Practice

Although this book is not for a true beginner, it is easy to understand for someone with a little bit of PHP knowledge. It gives lots of examples, and best of all most of the examples where practical things you might very well use on your website. Everything is clearly laid out so you can skip around to only learn what you need.

This book works both as a good reference for someone needing quick PHP reminders, and a good tutorial for someone learning these concepts for the very first time.
