How To Backup your vBulletin Database

Backup your data to prevent losing posts

By

It is always important to backup your data, and posts on your forum are no exception. If you use vBulletin, you are able to do this from the admin control panel. The more often you update the more recent the data you have to restore from if things go wrong. However, if you are saving backup copies on your server backing up daily could start to take up a lot of space, so you may want to remove some of the older backups to conserve a little room. Here is how to backup:

  1. Login to your forum account and click on the "Admin" link at the bottom of the page to get to the admin control panel.

  2. Expand the "Maintenance" menu, and then click "Database Backup"

  3. Make sure all the tables are marked as "Yes"

  4. Choose where you want to save the backup. It will default to something like ./forumbackup-08-20-2007-58caa.sql This is in your main directory so you might want to change it.

  5. You might also want to transfer a copy to your hard drive, just incase!
