Joomla?

Thursday June 11, 2009
I started working on a website in Joomla yesterday and I'm just not sure what I think of it yet. I found some things I like and some things I don't... although I'm not sure if the things I don't like are problems with Joomla, or just me not knowing how to use it yet! Have you used Joomla? What do you think of it? Share your opinions and advice!

I find joomla too rigid, especially when the features I want to add were not included initially in the project but were inspired by the finished product.

Anytime, I prefer my own CMS for each project.

I also am trying Joomla for the first time. Despite the lure of all the modules, I find the system much too layered. I don’t think my clients will have the patience to learn how to maintain their Joomla site. I’m reserving judgement. Like Mike, I prefer my own CMS components.

Joomla! is a great START. It has many uses and is a fantastic CMS for those with needs that can be meet by it.
I believe that Drupal is a more robust CMS and is more easily customized to fit specific needs.
However, I have recommended Joomla! to several people because one size does not fit all, and for the people that need a good easy CMS – JOOMLA! is a winner.

At first, I was un-enthused about Joomla because of the two-tiered hierarchy for articles: sections and categories. Why can’t I have nested categories?! Why not any convoluted hierarchy that I can imagine?! Now, I wonder if the organizational limitations are what allows the backend content admin to include stuff that would be built into the further-backend scripting in other CMS systems, i.e., checkboxes to include articles on the front page. I’m still wondering, but willing to have another look at Joomla.

I am prefer use muy own cms too. I find dificults tu modify some thinks. Itīs a cms for everybody, not for programers. In my own sperience i make my projects with frameworks or cms only for one seccion. Example: forum, a polls, news.. but not for all the web.

I had been wondering what to start with, Joomla or Drupal. But after a lot of searching I was convinced that Drupal will be a better option. Its been just over 2 weeks and I am totally addicted to it.
